Marc Marc Tyrrell

Marc is a symbolic Anthropologist whose research focuses on how people make sense of their lives using symbol systems and rituals to construct patterns of meaning.  He likes to say that Anthropology is the last disciplinary refuge of Renaissance men.

Marc currently teaches in the Directed Interdisciplinary Studies program at Carleton University, is a Senior Research Fellow in the Canadian Centre of Intelligence and Security Studies, and is a member of the Centre for Indigenous Research, Culture, Language and Education. He is also a member of the Editorial board of Small Wars Journal, the Advisory Board of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Social Science and is a contributor to War On The Rocks.

His focus on patterns of meaning spills over into his personal life as a professional singer with the Ottawa Bach Choir, which specializes in Baroque music, and the works of J.S. Bach in particular. He is also Anthropologist in [Virtual] Residence with Insignia Research out of Toronto, and has worked with a number of Fortune 500 companies and government departments helping them to understand the culture of their target markets.
